The vehicle uses a large traction battery pack to power the electric motor and must be plugged in to a wall outlet or charging equipment also called electric vehicle supply equipment EVSE. Plug-in hybrids and hybrids still require traditional maintenance as they still employ an ICE in combination with an electric motor to increase efficiency.
To help system improvements now underway in fully electric vehicles engineers had to move away from the vehicles ability to use the large amount of excess heat. But they must have some method of keeping their batteries cool. While electric cars can overheat they do not get as hot as gas engines do.
